Anonymous asked: Have you heard the old proverb that ends with the line “If someone gives you a gift, and you don’t accept, who does it belong to?” ?

I have not! Please explain!

@polyamorouspunk    The way I heard it was such:

A young sumo wrestler went undefeated for years by insulting his opponents at the start of the match. He would get into their head and anger them making it easy to beat them. This sumo wrestler challenged a legendary sumo wrestler whom had been undefeated for decades. The veteran sumo wrestler accepted the young man’s challenge.

On the day of the match, everyone in the surrounding villages gatherings very early in the morning to watch the epic battle. The young sumo wrestler started as he always did, insulting the other’s wrestling style, his family, his ancestors, and so on. The seasoned veteran did not respond at all. He simply sat waiting for the young man to make his first physical move. This went on through the morning and the afternoon. As the sun dipped down signalling early evening, the young sumo wrestler, out of breath and out of options, walked out of the ring and left the village.

The townspeople who had watched the entire time ran up to the still undefeated sumo wrestler. “How did you remain calm” They asked him. “How could you allow him to say those nasty things about your family and ancestors?” They inquired. The legendary sumo wrestler smiled at the crowd and asked:

“If someone tries to give you a gift, and you do not accept, who does it belong to?”

Moral of the fable: You take away all of an aggressor’s power if you don’t play their game.

That’s so beautiful thank you for sharing
